We are coming up on a year of remote-working and there are new studies coming out showing that working from home hasn’t been as magical as we thought it would be. Although who would have anticipated that working in our pajamas would be a bad thing?
STUDIES ON REMOTE WORKERS
A study from the Martec Group found that there are four specific types of remote employees:
It’s shocking to see that only 16% of people say they are thriving! That’s not okay!
We think EVERYONE should be thriving.
The main issues people said they were struggling with were lack of focus, missing community, and mental health. These are serious concerns! While some companies are reporting an increase in productivity, their employees are reporting decreased health and motivation. Yikes.
So what can we do? How do you bring people “back” when offices are closing down permanently left and right?
Don’t lose hope yet! There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
COWORKING TO THE RESCUE
The coworking industry has been bringing people together for over a decade, but now more than ever, it’s creating a space for people to be together when they need it most.
Of all the coworking stats we can throw at you, this might just be the most important one. A massive 89% of coworkers say they feel happier after joining a coworking space and as many as 83% say it makes them feel less lonely according to a study done by Small Business Labs.
But wait! There’s more!
According to GCUC’s survey, 84% of coworkers say working in a coworking space makes them more motivated. We think this study paints a pretty clear picture – coworking spaces create better workers!
Working from home is one thing, but working from home during a PANDEMIC? That’s a whole other level. We believe coworking is the remedy we all need during these hard times. One space that comes with increased productivity, growing community, AND free coffee?? It all sounds too good to be true.
With over 19,000 coworking spaces worldwide, there is bound to be one right around the corner from you. Just think about it – you can start to use your kitchen table for eating again! Remember when we used to do that?
THE BENEFITS OF COWORKING
Coworking spaces were made for those seeking community AND productivity. It’s the best of both worlds! And in these unprecedented times, they are the perfect places for the isolated and unfocused person who has been forced into the world of remote working. With your choice of a private office, individual desk, or communal cafe area, there is something for everyone.
Coworking was built to foster community. Between the networking events and the communal cafe area, they are great space for entrepreneurs and business owners to connect, be inspired, and get work done. Individuals yearning for social interaction while maintaining focus will highly benefit from a coworking space!
Beyond just the solo worker, they are also a great option for companies looking to downsize their office spaces to a smaller and cheaper alternative. Companies that are giving their employees the option to come in, or companies that are alternating the groups that come in are both great examples of scenarios in which coworking can help.
They are starting to realize that individual office rentals not only make more fiscal sense, but provide a flexibility that you won’t see in commercial real estate. Most coworking spaces utilize month-to-month contracts and give companies the ability to either add on another office or downsize if need be.
But the cost efficiency goes beyond the borders of the office building. Another benefit of coworking for companies is a drop in costs of office supplies, paper products, coffee, wifi, snacks, and triple net rent expenses. The benefit of having one consistent rate each month that doesn’t change is a major perk for companies looking to cut budgets and increase profits.
We could go on and on… but you get the picture.
COWORKING IS THE FUTURE
Ultimately, this study brought to light what we in the coworking industry already knew… we all need community, and coworking spaces are amazing places to find it.
We all know that there is no “returning to normal”. We all know that life as we know it in the working world is forever altered. But this doesn’t mean we all have to stay at home and push through the difficulties of working remotely. You are not alone! Nor should you work alone!
We believe that coworking is the future and if we could shout it from the rooftops, we would.
